Hi everyone,
Today is the first day of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place through October 15. The goal of this month is to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.
We’re excited to host the following events and initiatives:
Let us use this opportunity to learn more about Hispanic cultures and explore the rich history that has become an important part of our country. There are often local festivals, concerts, and art exhibits dedicated to this important month. You can learn more about how this month came to be, enjoy a book focused on Lantix heritage, watch a film and enjoy Latinx art.
If you’re of Hispanic or Latino/Latinx heritage and want to share your experiences, we encourage you to do so! This can be about anything—from challenges, to celebrations, to your favorite family recipes.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 to October 15 in the United States. The purpose of this month is to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, with the approval of Public Law 100-402.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is significant because it coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of several Latin American nations. September 15, which signals the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month, is the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico, Chile, and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, September 18, and September 21, respectively.
Observing this month in your workplace showcases your commitment to diversity and inclusion, with a focus on U.S. Hispanic and Latino/Latinx communities. Your team may want to share and learn more about Hispanic culture, art, history, and food.
