Guidance for compliance training

Compliance training is more than just checking a box. In fact, with regulation and compliance becoming increasingly complex, effective compliance training is becoming more crucial than ever to help mitigate risks and ensure there are no violations or penalties. It's important that your employees understand the role this training plays in their work, as well as how it can benefit their careers.

Here are some tips to implements effective compliance training:

  1. Use bite-sized learning. Your team is busy, so long, drawn-out training isn't going to be effective. Break down all of the information into segments of learning that are more manageable to digest and avoid your employees simply clicking through as quickly as possible.
  2. Keep it interesting. Avoid reviewing policy documents and manuals. Employ storytelling to tie your compliance training into real-world scenarios. This will help your team contextualize how their online training relates to day-to-day work activities. You can even solicit your team for feedback and stories about experiences with non-compliant behaviors and incidents.
  3. Encourage completion through contests & rewards. Add some fun incentives to your compliance training strategy for employees. You can host a fun contest for those who complete training such as a scavenger hunt that includes details in the learning.
  4. Get employee feedback. Ask your team for ideas to make compliance learning better. At the end of each training, make sure you have a feedback-gathering mechanism set up to learn about your employee's experiences and make meaningful improvements. You can even do this during your routine pulse surveys.

Don't forget to create a strategy around engaging employees to participate in your compliance training!
