Hi everyone,

Bastille Day, also known as French National Day, is coming up on July 14th. We want to take the opportunity to celebrate French culture and history alongside our French colleagues. For those who don’t know, Bastille Day is celebrated annually to commemorate the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, which was a turning point in the French Revolution. This day is observed not only in France but also in many other countries around the world.

We encourage you to enjoy some of the French cuisine provided in the break room. There will be a selection of croissants, baguettes, cheese, and macarons. Please join our Slack channel to share your favorite French artists (can be music, fine art, actors, and more!) and learn about French culture and history through Trivia throughout the day.

Please feel free to decorate your workspace with French flags, colors, or other French-themed decorations to create a festive and celebratory atmosphere.

Our team members based in France will be Out Of Office (OOO) to celebrate their national holiday. For those who will be out, please plan your collaborations and communications accordingly.

Thank you,

People Team

How to celebrate Bastille Day at work

Bastille Day, or French National Day, is celebrated on July 14th each year to commemorate the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, which was a turning point in the French Revolution. This day is observed not only in France but also in many other countries around the world.

Observing Bastille Day in the workplace is a great way to celebrate French culture and history. Here are some tips for how to observe it:

  • Cultural Presentation: If you have colleagues who are French or who have lived in France, invite them to give a presentation on French culture, history, or traditions.
  • French Cuisine: Incorporate French cuisine into your workday by bringing in croissants, baguettes, cheese, or other French delicacies to share with your colleagues. Macarons are always a delight.
  • French Music: Play some French music in the background to set the mood for the day. You can create a playlist of classic French songs or stream a French radio station. You can easily search and play popular or classic French artists through streaming apps like YouTube, Amazon Music, Pandora, and Spotify.
  • Decorate: If you have French employees in the office, they may want to decorate their workspace with French flags, colors, or other French-themed decorations to create a festive and celebratory atmosphere. Share the history and significance of French decorations and the flag. For example, the current tri-color flag flown in France is an emblem of the Fifth Republic, established following the revolution. White represents the King and blue and red are the colors of Paris.

By observing Bastille Day in the workplace, you can celebrate French culture and history and learn more about our global community. Whether it's through food, music, or cultural presentations, there are many ways to incorporate the spirit of Bastille Day into our workday.
