Learning to effectively delegate
Copy Text

Hi {{first_name}},

As part of your manager training, it's critical we go over how to effectively delegate. It's tempting to pick up the torch and run a marathon for your team day in and day out. After all, their success is your responsibility. However, when leaders fail to effectively delegate, they burn out.

It's my objective to ensure you're appropriately supported in your role as a leader. These tips should help get you started with delegating tasks across your team in a way that earns you trust and respect in the process.

  • Be open minded - consider different perspectives from your team to determine the best person to delegate tasks to. Sometimes a solution to work smarter may be clear to a team member, or a different team member than you intended is better prepared to tackle a specific tasks.
  • Consider strengths AND motivation - don't assume because someone is good at performing certain tasks that they want to take on additional similar responsibilities. This can lead to employee burnout, disengagement, and dissatisfaction.
  • Cross-train employees - create opportunity for different employees to learn new skills and step into temporary roles as needed, whether an employee is OOO or just needs a hand wrapping up a project before a tight deadline. Empower employees to work together and step into additional roles.

Don't assume you should always pick up the slack! You have a team that depends on you, and burn out trickles down. Lean into the strengths of your team and delegate in the most advantageous way for everyone. If there's ever anything I can assist with, don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you,

Your People Team

Hey there!

Time to put on your manager superhero cape because we're diving into the epic realm of effective delegation! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️

We get it—it's tempting to be the superhero who runs a marathon for the entire team, saving the day like there's no tomorrow. But hey, even superheroes need a break sometimes, right? 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Let's explore some delegation secrets to help you avoid that dreaded burnout:

🤔 Embrace the power of different perspectives! Your team is a treasure trove of skills and talents. Consider their unique viewpoints to determine the best person for each task.

💪 Strengths and motivation matter! Just because someone's a rockstar at a particular task doesn't mean they want to drown in similar responsibilities. Find out what ignites their passion and play to their strengths.

🔄 Unleash the power of cross-training! Give your team the opportunity to learn new skills and step into different roles. It's like a superhero training camp, preparing them to tackle any challenge that comes their way.

Remember, you don't have to be the solo savior all the time. You have an amazing team that depends on you, and burnout is a villain we need to defeat together. ⚡️

Thank you for embracing the power of effective delegation!

How to delegate as a manager

Delegation is the act of redirecting tasks and initiatives to other team members. Work may be delegated to redistribute responsibility or because a task is more relevant to another team member's priorities, skills or interests.

One of the most challenging transitions a manager may face is going from doing to leading. Learning how to confidently and effectively delegate tasks is one of the most valuable things you can do as a manager. This is a skill that often requires some coaching to finesse.

The key steps to learning to delegate effectively as a manager include:

  • Be open-minded - consider different perspectives from your team to determine the best person to delegate tasks to.
  • Consider strengths AND motivation - don't assume because someone is good at performing certain tasks that they want to take on additional similar responsibilities.
  • Cross-train employees - create opportunities for different employees to learn new skills and step into temporary roles as needed.
